Businessman Lawrence Mudzinganyama has handed himself over to police at the Randburg Police Station in Johannesburg following a widely circulated video showing an alleged confrontation at a restaurant in Sandton.
Deputy National Police Commissioner Tebello Mosiliki confirmed that Mudzinganyama was arrested after surrendering to police and was subsequently released on warning. He is expected to appear in court on 1 October 2026.
Mudzinganyama is facing a charge of intimidation stemming from allegations that he threatened women during an altercation at the Sandton restaurant. The incident attracted significant public attention after footage of the confrontation was shared widely on social media.
Mosiliki said the investigation remains ongoing and stressed that the circulation of the video does not replace the formal legal process required to investigate and prosecute the matter.
He explained that police are continuing to gather statements and other evidence before finalising the investigation. According to Mosiliki, investigators want to collect as much relevant evidence as possible before the case reaches court to avoid having to return to conduct further investigations.
Once the investigation has been completed, the police docket will be submitted to the court and placed before a senior public prosecutor, who will determine the appropriate way forward.
Mosiliki also said the matter had already been discussed with a prosecutor and that the investigation is being conducted with prosecutorial guidance.
Mudzinganyama will remain on warning until his scheduled court appearance on 1 October, while police continue with their investigation into the alleged intimidation.
