A suspect wanted in connection with the killing of two SAPS Crime Intelligence officers in a Mount Edgecombe ambush has been shot dead during a police operation in Inanda.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said a member of the SAPS Special Task Force was injured during the operation on Friday morning.
Police remained at the Inanda scene as investigations continued.
The operation follows the fatal attack on two Crime Intelligence officers in Mount Edgecombe on 30 April.
Officers killed in ambush
Sergeant Mandla Khuzwayo and Captain Louis Nel, both attached to the SAPS Crime Intelligence Unit, were travelling in an unmarked police vehicle when armed suspects allegedly opened fire on them.
The attack occurred along Flanders Drive and was captured on CCTV.
Nel was killed at the scene, while Khuzwayo was critically injured and later died in hospital.
At the time, emergency medical personnel and security partners responded to the shooting and found the police vehicle heavily damaged by gunfire, with both officers injured.
KZN VIP Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Gareth Naidoo said the response teams encountered a vehicle riddled with bullet holes and two wounded officers.
The latest Inanda operation forms part of the ongoing investigation into the attack and the search for those responsible for the deaths of the two Crime Intelligence members.
